“We cannot have a powerful and united Europe until Romanians have the same rights as the other European citizens”, Romania’s representative in the European legislative body said, emphasising that European leaders have no justification for not accepting Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. On such occasion, MEP Victor Negrescu has been wearing in the plenary session of the European Parliament a t-shirt inscribed with the title of the #RomaniansForSchengen (RomâniiMerităÎnSchengen) campaign, which he initiated along with PES activists in Romania, and with the Social Democratic Party.

His actions are also supported by statements of several European leaders, such as the German Social-Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who stated very clearly that Romanians, by the efforts they made, deserve Europe’s respect, and the accession to this free circulation area.
