Romania will receive additional European funds in order to mitigate the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Romania signed financing agreements which amount to 39.1 million euros – 12.1 million euros from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and 27 million euros from the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI). The funds are due to be transferred at the end of August 2022 and are intended to cover budgetary expenses resulting from mitigating the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
These resources are also a result of requests and amendments that MEP Victor Negrescu made in the Committee on Budgets, as well as in the European Parliament, by which he stressed that member states sharing a border with Ukraine should benefit from additional support in order to cover all the expenses incurred as a consequence of the war. In this regard, the Romanian MEP integrated this proposal into the common position of the European Parliament and contributed to the amendment of the European budget to ensure that there are sufficient funds in order to face the challenges related to this conflict
