The mental health problem in the context of the pandemic, debated at European level

The European Commission’s statistics on mental health issues are alarming, according to MEP Victor Negrescu.

“More than 18 million Europeans suffer from mental health problems, according to European Commission statistics. The worst aspect is that an increasing number of young people and children are facing such difficulties, and some even end up taking their own lives. Among young people in Romania, suicide is the second leading cause of death, and about 10% of the victims face depression as a result of the pandemic”, highlighted the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education, Victor Negrescu.

In order to reduce this phenomenon, Romania’s representative in the European Parliament proposed a pilot project for the development of a network of school counselors and psychologists for schools, and for the development of programs designed to ensure integrated assistance for young people and their families.
