Victor Negrescu intensifies efforts for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU and the development of European projects

The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, has urged the European Council to formally begin accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova, pointing out that it is the candidate country advancing at the fastest pace in the process of rapprochement with the European Union.

”The Republic of Moldova needs stability, security guarantees, and a clear European path”, the MEP emphasized.

The subject of Moldova’s accession to the EU was raised by Victor Negrescu during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi.

”I am pleased to see that, with the approval of the growth plan, we have more and more joint projects between Romania and the Republic of Moldova on topics of common interest. My amendment to the European regulation, proposing the inclusion of cross-border projects, is now working”, the MEP emphasized.

At the European legislative level, Victor Negrescu played an important role in improving, in 2025, the Reform and Growth Facility for the Republic of Moldova. As the S&D Group responsible for this file in the European Parliament, he promoted amendments that expanded European support for Chișinău.

The amendments proposed by the Romanian MEP aim to strengthen the role of civil society in implementing the plan, develop cross-border projects and energy interconnections, increase the level of pre-financing and the volume of grants, as well as introduce measures dedicated to supporting children, young people, and communities in rural areas.

These initiatives add to other efforts undertaken by Victor Negrescu to support the European path of the Republic of Moldova, including:
 – the initiative to open a European Parliament Liaison Office in Chișinău to strengthen relations between the EU and the Republic of Moldova;
 – mobilizing the support of dozens of MEPs from the main European political families to call for the opening of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova;
 – consistent requests in European decision-making forums to launch technical negotiations with the Republic of Moldova, in parallel with the implementation of reforms by the authorities in Chișinău.
