Vice-President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, presented in the plenary the main challenges of interest during the Polish Presidency of the EU Council

”The next six months are crucial for the future of Europe. In my speech in the European Parliament’s plenary, I warned that Poland’s presidency of the EU Council must find ambitious solutions to a number of issues”, Negrescu said, outlining the main problems which need a solution in the coming period.

– Defining new relations with the United States under the Trump era. The MEP emphasizes the need for ”a new and fair trade agreement”, but also the need to ”strengthen the security partnership to protect the interests of our states, including in the Black Sea area”.

– Protecting Europe’s democracies. As Europe is about to face several elections, the Vice-President of the European Parliament calls for ”effective action” to ”combat effectively” ”foreign interference in elections, disinformation and political radicalization, particularly in Romania and Germany, where important elections are coming up”.

– As the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for the 2025 EU budget, Victor Negrescu says that the EU ”needs a bigger European budget, to protect cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy and to provide additional funding for health and education” to ensure ”the well-being of Europeans”.

– The situation in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and negotiations on ending the war. ”We must define the role of Europe and the frontline states in these negotiations and in the reconstruction of Ukraine”, emphasizes Victor Negrescu.

– European Security – The MEP underlined the importance of developing the European defense industry across Europe, strengthening the resilience of our societies, thus fulfilling our NATO commitments.

”The question is how can we prepare for these new challenges and maintain the necessary unity in these difficult times. If we fail, the European project will be at risk and then we will all be at risk”, concludes the Vice-President of the European Parliament in a warning signal.
