Vice-President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu presents five priorities for this year to make the European Union more efficient and better functioning.
”Romania can only be strong and sovereign within the European Union and NATO. These organizations must, however, increase their efficiency and function better”, says the MEP, listing the series of actions that will be prioritized in 2025:
Use European funds efficiently. As the person responsible for implementing the recovery and resilience plans, he reiterated his objective that ”the funds are fully spent” and that the money ”goes where it is really needed”.
Education as a European priority. Victor Negrescu recalled the launch of the European Parliament’s first intergroup on education and skills, which he set up and which he coordinates in the European legislature.
”Together with the more than one hundred MEPs who are part of the network, we want to prioritize education at European level”, said the MEP.
Rethinking EU funding and protecting Romania’s interests
In the context of the start of discussions on the EU’s long-term European budget, Victor Negrescu emphasized that increasing “subsidies for Romanian farmers, protecting cohesion policy, funding education and making the competitiveness fund more efficient are crucial objectives”.
Democratizing access to European information
”We are continuing our information and education campaigns about European opportunities and how the EU works. This is the only way to influence decisions and move Europe in the desired direction. Thank you PES activists Romania for all your involvement. At the same time, I will fight for more Romanians to reach key positions at international level as I have done in previous years”, Negrescu said.
Promoting the potential of Romania and Romanians
The MEP emphasized the enormous potential of Romania, recalling the ”extraordinary things” Romanians are doing.
”I will seek to highlight the achievements and potential of Romanians in the country and in the diaspora by organizing promotional events, questioning the authorities when necessary and bringing together positive initiatives. Romanian Digital Day, the Romanian Spring Day in Brussels or the information sessions for Romanian children and young people in the diaspora are just some of the initiatives that will continue”, concluded the Vice-President of the European Parliament.
