MEP Victor Negrescu is making it a priority to support farmers affected by floods. They can receive up to €42,000 from the EAFRD to restore crops and tackle the effects of disasters

MEP Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament, obtained the support of the Committee for Budgets of the European legislature for farmers affected by the floods.

”Farmers who have been affected by disasters can receive up to €42,000 from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development to help them restore their crops and tackle the effects of disasters. The total amount available amounts to €588 million and is available to beneficiaries on the basis of funding schemes developed at Member State level in coordination with the European institutions”, explained the MEP.

As rapporteur for the Social Democrat group, Victor Negrescu obtained the support of his colleagues on his proposals regarding:

  • financing small farmers and producers of traditional products;
  • administrative simplification to allow the rapid use of funds allocated to farmers, foresters, producers of traditional products and SMEs;
  • the need to consult those affected in order to ensure fair financing;
  • streamlining the process by the Commission monitoring how payments are made and informing the European Parliament;
  • rehabilitation and reconstruction of rural and agricultural infrastructure.

These arrangements and sums are in addition to the support that Victor Negrescu, as the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for the 2025 EU budget, managed to secure in discussions with member countries: €3 billion from the cohesion funds for Central and Eastern European countries affected by floods and an increase of €8 million for the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
