Victor Negrescu, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education reiterated the need for a European plan for education.
He has recently taken part in numerous debates on education, such as the European Education Summit, organised by the European Commission and its partners.
”Education must be a priority. In order to think about education strategies, we need to recognise the realities, as highlighted by the PISA reports, and identify practical solutions, based on the many positive examples already existing in Romania or at European level”, Negrescu stressed.
The MEP recalled that this proposal for a European plan for education, which he presented, has already been adopted by the Conference on the Future of Europe and is getting closer to becoming a reality.
”From 2027, we will most likely have a European programme dedicated only to education and we already have to come up with ideas for its design”, Negrescu is convinced.
As one of the promoters of this initiative, he did not hesitate to advocate ”the need that the new instrument should combat inequalities and discrepancies, support the increase in the quality of education and teacher training, promote civic education or the development of skills to ethically use artificial intelligence and new technologies”.
”It is time to invest in people, in children and young people, in teachers and in the relationship between school and community, in communication with parents and the development of social and life skills. I believe in the future of education and I have met dozens of people who share my vision that through education we can overcome all challenges”, concluded Victor Negrescu.
