– The Romanian MEP is part of the Bureau of the European Parliament and will manage relations with political groups and the EU Court of Justice –
Victor Negrescu (S&D, Romania) was elected by acclamation as Quaestor of the European Parliament on Thursday 9 November, becoming the only Romanian MEP to sit in the Parliament’s Bureau.
The Bureau of the European Parliament is responsible for budgetary, administrative, organisational and staff matters. It is composed of the President of the European Parliament, together with 14 Vice-Presidents and five Quaestors in an advisory role.
From this position the Romanian MEP will manage the relationship with the political groups in the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the liaison offices of the European Parliament.
He will replace Monika Beňováe, a non-attached MEP from Slovakia.
“I am grateful to all my colleagues in the European Parliament and in particular our S&D colleagues for their unanimous support in becoming the next Quaestor of the European Parliament. I will continue to be a strong advocate for transparency and will offer my assistance to all MEPs”, said the Romanian representative in the European legislature on the occasion of his election.
According to the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament, a new Quaestor is elected to fill a vacancy in the order of precedence – thus Victor Negrescu became the third Quaestor.
Parliament’s five Quaestors are primarily responsible for administrative and financial matters of direct concern to MEPs.
MEPs aim to ensure that the size of the political groups in Parliament largely reflects the composition of the Bureau.
