During the European Parliament’s March plenary session, MEP Victor Negrescu called on the European Commission and EU Member States to provide the Republic of Moldova with access to pre-accession funds to support the country on its path towards the European Union and to counter external attempts to destabilise the country.
“The Republic of Moldova needs our support at a time when its stability is under threat. In the last three weeks, the authorities in Chisinau have been facing unprecedented pressure and situations and have discovered the direct involvement of the Russian Federation in the attempt to destabilise the country by organising violent protests”, MEP Victor Negrescu said during his intervention in the European Parliament’s plenary.
The Romanian MEP’s intervention was part of a debate on the situation in the Republic of Moldova and will be followed by the adoption of a resolution in support of the country’s European path.
In his speech, the Romanian representative in the European Parliament called on the European Commission and Member States to provide rapid access to pre-accession funds for the Republic of Moldova, integrating the existing expertise in the region, to ensure that these resources are used appropriately and in the interest of citizens.
“The European Union must move from theory to practice. Now, my country, Romania, is assisting the Republic of Moldova, offering everything from financial support to energy resources, while donor pledges are late in appearing”, MEP Victor Negrescu mentioned, calling for accelerated action as promised by international donors.
