Within the context of increasing power prices, and of the cold season coming, MEP Victor Negrescu argues that we need a common, efficient, and quick European response to handle the impact of this crisis in the European Union, active measures and efficient regulations in the context of a liberalization of the energy market that is currently not working.
Presenting the state of facts that European citizens are facing during this period, the Romanian MEP emphasised concrete solutions, particularly considering the difficulty for some social categories of citizens to cover their energy-related expenses.
Romania’s representative in the European Parliament argues that those who gained at the expense of European citizens need to be taxed, including the traders who took advantage of such context, and to the same extent we need to support those investing in the production sector and the states with capacities in the energy sector, such as, for example, Romania.
MEP Victor Negrescu also asked for a quicker and more efficient implementation of the European energy program, REPowerEU.
Even though the European Union has created shared reserves and stocks, secured new power resources from other producers, and is investing about 200 billion euro in the energy sector for production and efficiency, the MEP argues that it is required to adapt the actions to the context, and particularly focus on solutions that would entail support for both the European citizens, and the economic sector.
