Victor Negrescu, vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education: Young people are the future and we must take care of them

MEP Victor Negrescu, vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT), welcomed a ”large group of young people and children from Romania” to the European Parliament.

”Young people are the future and we must take care of them. I am happy to welcome a large group of young people and children from Romania to the European Parliament. I trust these young people will do more and do better”, stressed Negrescu.

MEP Victor Negrescu is an active promoter of young people’s rights, believing that their voice is important in shaping European policies for a European Union of the future in which the young generation has an equal chance to develop everywhere in Europe.

That’s why he launched a YouthUP campaign in early 2023, calling on the European Commission to ensure a lasting legacy for the European Year of Youth. Through his actions, the European Parliament then organised a debate on the matter, attended also by the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.

Victor Negrescu promoted and got involved in the activities of the European Year of Youth, obtaining, through the amendments he submitted, EUR 8 million for actions and events under the aegis of this year.

Author of the CULT Committee’s opinion on the European Year of Competences and aware that young people need support in their educational pathway to facilitate their further integration into the labour market, the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s CULT Committee has proposed the adoption of a European Education Plan.

Recently, as the European Parliament’s chief negotiator for the 2025 EU budget, Victor Negrescu has included this proposal in the European legislature’s budget priorities.
