MEP Victor Negrescu, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education and S&D responsible for the CULT Committee report on the European Year of Skills, highlighted the need for digital inclusion and innovation so that European citizens can develop the skills and training needed to thrive in their jobs, during the All Digital Summit 2023 – Skills for Digital Tomorrow, the premier event for learning and networking in the digital world.
His efforts to ensure equal access to education and to develop digital skills are well known. Only 37% of adults undertake training on a regular basis. The Digital Economy and Society Index shows that 4 out of 10 adults and every third person who works in Europe lack basic digital skills.
The ALL DIGITAL Summit 2023 took place in Zagreb on 25-27 September 2023 and was titled “Skills for Digital Tomorrow” contributing to the European Year of Skills initiative and moving forward the digital transformation through education and learning across Europe.
The programme included lectures, panels, workshops and presentations on current crucial topics within digital education, with a special focus on emerging technologies and their impact in education and society. Policymakers, digital education stakeholders, civic society and industry representatives gathered in Zagreb, Croatia, to get and further discuss the latest insights on policy actions and innovation related to digital competences.
The panels focused on presenting different perspectives, paying particular attention to the effects of digital transformation on skill development, sustaining the European Year of Skills and the development of an inclusive, tech ready and future-proof society.
The European Commission has designated 2023 as the European Year of Skills to promote upskilling and reskilling opportunities, for instance by highlighting relevant EU initiatives, including EU funding possibilities, to support their take-up, implementation and delivery on the ground.
