MEP Victor Negrescu has been elected S&D Group coordinator in the Committee on Budgetary Control of the European Parliament.

He will ensure that ”European resources are used properly, that European programmes produce concrete results” and that all countries are treated the same.    

Victor Negrescu is the shadow rapporteur of the S&D Group in the European Parliament for the 2024 EU budget having this responsibility also for the 2023 and 2022 EU budget.

The Committee on Budgetary Control of the European Parliament ensures that the European budget is used correctly and on intended purpose.

It also oversees the spending under the NextGenerationEU programme, a temporary instrument of an additional EUR 750 billion, that powers the recovery of the EU after the coronavirus crisis.

This is done through through the annual discharge procedure, where it evaluates how the EU budget was spent.
