MEP Victor Negrescu defends Romanian farmers in the European Parliament and points out the irresponsibility of the anti-Europeans in managing the crisis in agriculture

MEP Victor Negrescu defended Romanian farmers in the European Parliament and pointed out the irresponsibility of the anti-Europeans in managing the crisis in agriculture, as the current European Commissioner for Agriculture is affiliated to the Eurosceptic group, which includes representatives of the extremist parties in Romania in the European legislature.

“Farmers in Romania are fighting for survival because the current European Commissioner for Agriculture, who is supported by Eurosceptic parties in Europe, including representatives of Romania’s extremist parties in the European Parliament, is incapable of providing adequate solutions to the problems they face. Under the direction of the Eurosceptic-affiliated Commissioner, Romania has been discriminated against in the allocation of funds to support farmers, speculators are taking advantage of cheap grain and war-affected farmers, food prices have risen exponentially, and Ukrainian agricultural products are not even reaching the right destination. This is what anti-Europeans do when they get into key positions in Europe”, said MEP Victor Negrescu.

At the end of his speech, the Romanian representative in the European Parliament announced the launch of a new initiative together with the Social Democratic Party and PES activists Romania to support Romanian farmers and rural development.

“Together with the Social Democratic Party and PES activists Romania, we have come up with solutions to the current crisis in agriculture and we will launch a campaign to support Romanian farmers and those living in rural areas because the European left is fighting for an inclusive Europe”, concluded Romanian MEP Victor Negrescu.

These efforts led to the additional allocation, by the European Commission, of a support package to Romania, amounting to 30 million euro, to support agricultural producers from the cereal sector.
