MEP Victor Negrescu met with Finland’s Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering, Tytti Tuppurainen, during her visit to Bucharest on 16 January.
Members of the same European social democratic family, the two discussed bilateral cooperation and common challenges at European level, with a focus on Finland’s support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, the strengthening of the Party of European Socialists and a fairer European Union.
“I thanked my colleague from the Party of European Socialists for her support in joining the Schengen area, her visit to Romania and our good political relations”, said MEP Victor Negrescu.
He added that “our friends in the Social Democratic Party in Finland are an excellent example of how we can build sustainable policies and resilient societies”.
Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen visited the Romanian capital of Bucharest on Monday 16 January. In several high-level meetings, discussions focused on support for Ukraine in defending itself against Russia’s illegal war of aggression, the rule of law, EU enlargement and securing access to energy across Europe, among other topics.
On this occasion, Minister Tuppurainen expressed her gratitude to Romania for the swift ratification of Finland’s application for NATO membership in July 2022, stressing that “the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO will enhance the security of Europe as a whole”.
